Lily Dale Assembly: A Spiritual Retreat & Playground

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Greetings Seeker,

Have you finished your summer fun in the sun yet?

Lily Dale Assembly is a magical place my husband and I visited in the past. It is located near Niagara Falls, specifically in Lily Dale, New York. Only about 3 hours from Toronto, it is an inexpensive and accessible retreat for singles, couples, and families.

We are in no way affiliated with this organization.

ABOUT
http://www.lilydaleassembly.com/

For all those who want to get back in touch with nature, spirituality, healing, and innocence — this place is a must. With a nominal daily entrance fee, the compound gates alert you to what awaits: A playground for adults and enlightened children alike.

Lily Dale is a well-organized spiritualist community that invites the general public to partake in all its wonders. Program calendar and workshop information can be found on the site: http://www.lilydaleassembly.com/events-workshops/
And while you can purchase a Visitor’s Guide from the website one, I believe, is free of charge once inside.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation, inside the compound, is inexpensive and you can enjoy the old hotels (Maplewood is at the heart of all the action) for $34 to $69 a night, spend your time at Guest Houses on the grounds (many have kitchen facilities) for $45-$75 a night, camp out, or bring your RV ($15-$20 a night, less if you stay the week). If you stay the week, there are substantial savings.

EATING
The first time we went, we stayed at the Maplewood hotel and packed our car with a carton of water and dry food supplies. The second time we went, we stayed at one of the guest houses which had fridge privileges. We brought food from home and also shopped at the local grocery store (off the grounds) which saved on the cost of the trip.

On the visit where we stayed at the hotel we found the restaurants on the grounds unhealthy (maybe things have changed) and the ones off were either very expensive and upscale or fast food types. Maybe you will find otherwise and let us know!!

We did enjoy specialty drinks and treats at the local cafe (Cup-a-Joe) run by a spiritualist where there was an impromptu jam session that happened one evening.

READINGS
With full-time spiritualists, who live on the compound, you can receive paid and/or free readings. Since we couldn’t decide on a spiritualist to see, we took our chance at getting a reading from the open air free forest readings. And we were blessed to receive a few readings from various mediums — what a joy!

MANY THINGS TO DO
There are also numerous workshops, seminars, and classes available to be taken with a bookstore and tuck shop. As well as tours and visits to a fabulous genuine full sized library and museum housing many vintage and antique items.

We urge you to partake in this experience with it’s swimming, boating, sweat lodge, fairy trail, a walk through the well groomed old growth forest paths, energy healing at the church, and other delights if you have an opportunity to do so this summer.

LILY DALE’S HISTORY
Lily Dale was the place to go during Victorian times. In fact, it retains much of that Victorian flavour in its architecture, some say — ghosts, artwork, and learning opportunities!

Travelers from all over the world and time periods have visited Lily Dale. Some of its more prestigious or well known visitors include Houdini (those darn magicians trying to learn how we genuine psychics and mediums do it — ha!ha!); Mae West; Susan B. Anthony, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (detectives, another squirrely lot trying to learn more from psychics about how to sleuth out insights :), Gandhi, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

WHAT’S A GRAIN OF SALT WORTH?
I tell all my clients, take the best and leave the rest. A psychic, medium or any other type of “reading” gives insight and helps you find direction and peace; however, it’s important to take responsibility for any advice that is acted upon and to use your own God given brilliance to make the right decision for you.

Abella’s Favourite Things: So Soya+

So Soya — beef, chicken…

Favourite Things: Second Cup — Pumpkin Spice Latte with Soya Milk (no whip cream)

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

If you need a pick me up or feel a bit under the weather try a Pumpkin Spice of Plain Second Cup Latte with Soya Milk. Starbucks’ version is less tastier.

Now the Drake Hotel’s used to have a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a Specialty Coffee that included a tea bag of spices but apparently they only use syrup now so I figure that isn’t as good as what they had last winter. Oh well!

Happy drinking during the winter season…
